Art and History

Art, like several things in our lives, can be very controversial. For example, just because somebody “made” it, it doesn’t mean that his(or her) Art is always great or acceptable. Or, a small group of admirers of your work (nowadays we call them followers, don't we?) it is not an indisputable sign that “you really got it”, right..? Personally, the most important condition for your value as an Artist is your duration on time and History has always been the greatest witness for that. However, as long as I was admiring the other day, inside the Art and History Museum of Brussels, all those beautiful Art-Crafts humanity had produced in every corner of our world in a period of thousands years, one thought was kept coming in my mind: soon, when we humans will finally disappear from the planet because of our stupidity, all these beautiful objects that now are standing (totally muted) behind security glasses (in nicely done vitrines and marbled bases - and who knows how much it had costed, in money and in blood to be captured...) will stand there for ever. Alone and sad, without any human eyes around to give them the “value they deserve”, while they will be waiting quietly for their own long term end, they will prove one thing: Art, is very important and surely necessary in our lives but without our personal participation it is only stones, papers, wood, glass...
